Balan's Came Back to 1022 Lincoln Road. Here's What Else Changed on the Mall This Fall

October 15, 2026

"It feels like Balan's is coming home." That's how owners Jonathan and Keva Balan described their return to Lincoln Road, as Miami New Times reported in late August. In the same piece they pointed out how rare it is for an independent restaurant to come back to the exact address where its Miami story started almost 30 years earlier.

That address is 1022 Lincoln Rd., and the brasserie is serving there again. The 800 block a few doors west is changing too, and the mall's fall calendar has filled in around both. Together they show that Lincoln Road's day is getting longer at both ends, with more reasons to show up early and, if one announced opening keeps its date, more reasons to stay late.

The Morning End Moved Back to the 1000 Block

Balan's first opened in London in 1987 as the Old Compton Cafe. The family came to the U.S. in 1997 and opened on Lincoln Road. It spent more than two decades on the pedestrian mall. Then the family replaced it with Issabella's, a Mediterranean restaurant that opened Dec. 17, 2021. Meanwhile Balan's kept running in Brickell at Mary Brickell Village, where it has been since 2008.

Issabella's served its last meal on Sunday, Aug. 30. Balan's was scheduled to come back on Thursday, Sept. 17. The Miami Beach Journal confirmed that it reopened on that date. It also cited an Oct. 7 Instagram video from the restaurant saying brunch, lunch, dinner and happy hour were all running again.

According to the same Miami New Times report, these old favorites are back on the menu: eggs Benedict, Belgian waffles, the Balan's burger and British fish and chips. Newer dishes draw on Miami and Mediterranean cooking. New Times wrote that the opening announcement promised brunch every day until 4 p.m., happy hour from 3 to 6 p.m. seven days a week, and recurring sunset events with music and cocktails.

The hours on paper are less settled than the menu. The Lincoln Road directory lists Balan's as open 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, and closed Monday and Tuesday. That doesn't match the "every day" language in the launch coverage. A weekday brunch plan that lands on a Monday or Tuesday may run into the directory's schedule.

Even so, the directory hours show the change. An 8 a.m. opening and brunch until mid-afternoon bring the 1000 block back into play before most of the mall's dinner rooms open.

The 800 Block Is Adding Both Ends of the Day

Two storefronts on the 800 block show the stretch better than anything else on the mall.

Sulta Rosa had its grand opening on July 7 at 821 Lincoln Rd., according to Time Out Miami. It's a coffee and dessert café from "Dancing with the Stars" pros Daniella Karagach and Pasha Pashkov and local partner Emanuel Rich. The menu covers specialty coffee, croissants, gelato, baklava and cookies. Sulta Rosa covers the morning and afternoon on its block.

Across the street at 818 Lincoln Rd., Ukiyo has been announced for mid-October. Miami New Times reported on Sept. 14 that it would bring conveyor-belt nigiri, sashimi and rolls, plus tableside kamameshi, robata skewers and a dumpling cart that circulates through the dining room. Digest Miami adds paitan ramen to the menu and reports that dinner is planned to run until 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

As of today, Ukiyo is still an announcement. The latest coverage, a Sept. 30 roundup from Dish Miami, still says it is "set to open mid-October," and no firm date has been published. If it opens on schedule, one stretch of the 800 block will run from morning coffee at 821 to a 2 a.m. sushi counter at 818.

What the Day Looks Like Now

Here is the fall lineup arranged by time of day, with each entry's status as of Oct. 12, 2026:

Time of day Where Address Status
Opens 8 a.m., Wed–Sun Balan's 1022 Lincoln Rd. Open since Sept. 17
Brunch until 4 p.m. Balan's 1022 Lincoln Rd. Announced daily; directory lists Mon–Tue closed
Coffee, pastry, gelato Sulta Rosa 821 Lincoln Rd. Open since July 7
Happy hour, 3–6 p.m. Balan's 1022 Lincoln Rd. Announced daily
Late dinner until 2 a.m., Fri–Sat Ukiyo 818 Lincoln Rd. Announced for mid-October, unconfirmed
Counter-service pizza Royale Pizza Napoletana 1680 Meridian Ave. Announced for October, listed "coming soon"

Royale Pizza Napoletana fills in the casual-dinner slot just off the mall. It's a Tokyo-style Neapolitan pizzeria with counter ordering, seven pizzas, antipasti and pasta. Miami New Times gave October as the opening month "if all goes to plan." The Lincoln Road directory still lists it as "COMING SOON."

One Long-Running Room Closed on Lenox

Not everything around the mall added hours. Yardbird Southern Table & Bar closed its original location at 1600 Lenox Ave. on Aug. 5 after 15 years, according to Miami New Times' summer closures roundup. Yardbird was one of the dinner anchors on the side streets for years, and its closing opens up a big corner just as the fall openings arrive. No replacement has been reported for 1600 Lenox in the coverage reviewed for this post.

The Calendar Fills the Hours the Restaurants Don't

Between Balan's 8 a.m. opening and Ukiyo's planned 2 a.m. close, the Lincoln Road event calendar fills the weekends. Here is the official schedule for the next seven weeks:

  1. Sundays, year-round. The farmers market runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The next listed date is Oct. 18.
  2. Saturday, Oct. 24. A Pumpkin Decorating Workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  3. Sunday, Oct. 25. The Antique & Collectible Market from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the same Sunday as the farmers market.
  4. Saturday, Oct. 31. The Lincoln Road Halloween Block Party starts at 5 p.m. The event calendar lists a 2 a.m. finish on Nov. 1, and the event page lists 1:30 a.m. Early family activities come first, then the costumed crowd later in the evening.
  5. Nov. 18 through Nov. 29. A working programming schedule from the Lincoln Road Business Improvement District, presented at its Sept. 15 executive committee meeting, lists a public-art reveal on Nov. 18, the holiday tree lighting on Nov. 21, and live music and entertainment Nov. 27 through 29. Those dates come from a planning document, so they are scheduled but not yet confirmed.

The Halloween block party shows the late-night shift on the calendar side. Its listed end time of 2 a.m. matches the weekend closing time announced for Ukiyo.

A block north of the mall, the City of Miami Beach's free SoundScape Cinema Series is running at SoundScape Park, 500 17th St. The season opened at 8 p.m. on Oct. 7. Upcoming titles include "The Goonies" on Oct. 14, "Casper" on Oct. 21, "The Addams Family" on Oct. 28 and "Supergirl" on Nov. 18, and the series continues into spring. Nov. 18 is also the date the BID schedule lists for its public-art reveal, so that Wednesday has two events within a block of each other.
